Educational Resources

Since SGCT’s beginnings we have set about accumulating as much information about the cemetery and its inhabitants as we can. Here we share with you some of the things we have found. You will find a collection of resources useful to teachers and students of all ages, including images, biographies, newsletters and lesson plans.

Burial Details

There are 87,000 buried in the General Cemetery, and the General Cemetery Company kept records of every burial. They recorded the name of the person being buried, their death and burial dates, their age, their place of residence, and their status/occupation. The Friends of the General Cemetery are in the process of transferring this information on to a searchable database. On this website you will find a sample of our database. This is the first 6000 burials and also includes information about the cause of death. Unfortunately after the first 6000 burials the General Cemetery Company no longer recorded that particular piece of fascinating information. In addition we have transferred information about plot owners from the written records on to a plot owners database.
