affluent new middle classes of Sheffield preferred
to express their individuality by commissioning
unique monuments to celebrate their lives.
Perhaps cost was
the problem. Certainly a vault in a catacomb was
more expensive than a burial plot, but it was still
cheaper than erecting a monument over a vault, which
many chose to do.
Not true. The
Nonconformists do not have a religious objection to
catacombs. Try again.
