The Friends of the General Cemetery (FOGC) was formed in 1989 by a handful of residents on Cemetery Road, Sheffield. Since then this voluntary organisation has grown in size (with more than 200 members) and the Friends has now become the Sheffield General Cemetery Trust. The Trust carries out many organised events within the cemetery:

  • Education tours and workshops

  • Conservation work to maintain and enhance the monuments, the landscape and the paths

  • Historical research of the cemetery and its occupants.

SGCT's aim is to encourage everyone to enjoy this historical site by walking its paths, learning its history or simply as a quiet place to sit and contemplate.

If you would like to become a member please send a cheque for £6 payable to SGCT, with a note of your name, address, telephone number, email address (if you have one) and details of any particular interests you have in the cemetery to:

If you join, you will receive three fact and picture filled newsletters per year, and notice of all our events. Please join even if you don't want to be an 'active' member, we need more members to show our strength!
